Solanum melanocerasum - Closely related to the Sunberry, Garden Huckleberries are more robust plants with larger, but less sweet, fruit. The berries look ripe when they change colour into their deep-purple (almost black), but they’re best if allowed to ripen fully until they’re slightly soft. Remarkably pigmented, everything will be stained purple. I can only speculate, but they must be loaded with antioxidants. Flavour-wise they’re not great fresh off the plant, but they’re delicious when cooked and sweetened for pies and sauces. 40 seeds
