Marion Rutubaga (Brassica napus) - A great winter storage Rutabaga. Rutabagas are great mashed like potatoes, roasted or used in soups. I think rutabagas are one of the most dependable food sources that you can grow as they’re both high yielding and better yet, seldom decimated by insects, unlike that other important staple root crop, the potato.   Several hundred seeds

(new) Ideal Purple Top Milan Turnip (Brassica rapa) - Produces an early crop of flat, purple and white roots. Crisp and sweet, they mature in only 8-10 weeks but don't keep as long as rutabagas.   Several hundred seeds

(new) Shosaku Gobo – A cultivated strain of Japanese Burdock (Arctium lappa) grown for it's long, slender edible root. Extremely easy to grow, just direct sow in May and stand back! The root  grows up to one metre in length in loose soil (but usually less) and is ready to be dug in the fall or the following spring. They're a popular root crop in Japan where they've been cultivated to lose the bitter taste of the wild burdock. Great stir-fried, baked with other root crops, in soups, raw....use your imagination! A biennial which grows to 7 feet in it's second year when it flowers.   100 seeds

(new) Lancer Parsnip (from Windhorse Farm) - Long, smooth, slender roots. Flavour improves with frosts. We harvest half our parsnips in the fall for storage in the root cellar, and leave the rest in the ground for a fresh and crisp early spring harvest.   100 seeds
