Grow Organic: A Simple Guide to Nova Scotia Vegetable Gardening by Elizabeth Peirce
My friend Elizabeth recently wrote this great guide to organic vegetable gardening in the Maritimes, I definitely think it's one of the best local garden books around. Lots of info on intensive urban growing but it applies no matter where your garden is located. Also some neat profiles on Nova Scotian organic farmers... I'm included!

Saving Seeds as if our Lives Depended on it by Dan Jason
A powerful and most of all inspiring book from my mentor and general seed-guru Dan Jason. Dan's vision of neighbourhood co-operation for local food production is a pretty inspiring one, I really shows how much communities and individuals can do to help create a local, sustainable food system. Seed saving is of course a big part of any truly local, sustainable food system, and much of the book focuses on the philosophy and how-tos of saving seeds. I can't recommend a better book for new seed savers!
